2005 Tennessee Professional of the Year Selected for NAADAC's 2006-2007 National Professional of the Year Award

  • Frances Clark-Patterson, Ph.D., LADAC, MAC, CCJS, QSAP
    Dr. Clark-Patterson is the current Director of Behavioral Health Services at Metro Public Health Department in Nashville, Tennessee. She obtained both her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Alcohol and Drug Education Rehabilitation Program. Frances completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Southern California University for Professional Studies. She is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor in Tennessee, a NAADAC Certified Masters Addictions Counselor, a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional, Certified Criminal Justice Specialist and Tennessee Certified Clinical Supervisor for A&D licensure. Frances worked as a counselor and program administrator in treatment programs in Virginia and Tennessee over the past 17 years. She also does program development, coordination and implementation as well as supervises clinical work with the counselors at the Behavioral Health Access Program at the Health Department.

    Frances has conducted professional training locally, statewide and nationally for more than ten years on topics such as ASI/ASAM, Case Management, Assessing for Co-occurring Disorders, Sexual Transference and Counter-Transference, Self care for the Helping Professionals, Addiction and Hepatitis C, Intake and Assessment, Confidentiality, Substance Abuse in Dentistry, Mental Health Issues for Adolescents and other topics in the addictions and mental health fields. She is a member of the NAADAC Trainers Academy and is a NAADAC approved trainer. Additionally, Frances has seven years of experience in state conference planning, coalition building and community collaborations.

    Dr. Clark-Patterson will recieve her award at the NAADAC National Conference this year in California.



    2006 ETAADAC Counselor of the Year Also Selected as TAADAC's 2007 Tennessee Counselor of the Year
  • Donna Mitchell, BA
    Donna Mitchell, a recipient of the 2006 ETAADAC Counselor of the Year Award, has been awarded the TAADAC Tennessee Counselor of the Year Award for 2006. Donna is the current case manager for the Knox County Drug Court program in Knoxville, Tennessee. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in human Ecology with concentration in training and development. Donna is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Tennessee, with a concentration in administration which should be completed in August of 2008. Donna is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Previously, she worked for the University of Tennessee as a Training Coordinator where she coordinated and facilitated statewide training programs, workshops and conferences. Donna has also been an active Board Member of the Christian Women’s Job Core since 1999, the Director of the New Covenant Baptist Church Prison Ministry since 1998 and has been in a leadership role of the New Covenant Baptist Church Women’s Missionary Union since 1993.

    Donna has been an integral part of the ETAADAC organization for several years and has been indispensable for her work in chairing the ETAADAC Core Function Conference committee along with coordinating the presenters for the conference. She exudes a strong sense of faith, family and commitment to all who know her and her great compassion for her clients precedes her abilities as a fine upstanding member of our field.

    Mrs. Mitchell was not able to attend the Jorney Together Conference but her award was accepted on her behalf by Rosa Carter, current President of ETAADAC. The award was presented by Frances Clark, TAADAC President and will now be eligible for the NAADAC Counselor of the Year Award at the 2007 NAADAC National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee..




    2006 ETAADAC Professional of the Year Also Selected as TAADAC's 2007 Tennessee Addiction Professional of the Year
  • Bob Garrett, LADAC, NCAC I, SAP
    Bob Garrett, a recipient of the ETAADAC Professional of the Year award, was selected to recieve the TAADAC Tennessee Addiction Professional of the Year Award for 2006. Bob, a front-line counselor and administrator for Steps House, Inc., was given the award at the 2006 Journey Together Conference in Nashville, Tennessee on September 8, 2006. Bob has been in the East Tennessee counseling field since 1997 and specializes in Relapse Prevention and Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. Currently, he is a Licensed Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor in the State of Tennessee as well as a Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor, Level 1. Bob has served as the President of the East Tennessee Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors from 2004 to 2006 and is a current member of NAADAC, the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors as well as the Tennessee and East Tennessee chapters of NAADAC. Bob has just finished obtaining his Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) credential through NAADAC. He serves on several committees and works closely with ETAADAC members on the annual ETAADAC Core Function Conference, ETAADAC 411 and quarterly trainings. Bob is also responsible for the design, content and upkeep of the ETAADAC website and e-mail accounts and various details of the ETAADAC internet presence.

    Bob has recieved numerous awards including the 2001 Steps House, Inc. Distuinguished Service Award, 2003 ETAADAC Catherine S. Scarlett Counselor of the Year Award and the 2006 Steps House, Inc. HOPE Award. Utilizing 12-Step methodology, CBT, CEBT, REBT Therapy and Behavior Modification Therapy he has worked with thousands of clients who suffer from the devastation caused by the disease of addiction and is extremely supportive of 12-Step recovery groups and mental health treatment. Bob works tirelessly to convey a message of hope, professionalism and integrity among those in the counseling field and advocates for equal and accessible substance abuse treatment for all who suffer the ravages of addiction.

    Mr. Garrett was presented his award by Frances Clark, TAADAC President and will now be eligible for the NAADAC Professional of the Year Award at the 2007 NAADAC National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.



    2007 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Selected
  • Bonnie Farrell, LADAC
    When it comes to the field of addiction counseling, the name Bonnie Farrell is known all over East Tennessee. With values based on education, professionalism, integrity and dedication, Bonnie was an integral part of the counseling field for many, many years and was well known and loved by all. She was a friend to the Eagle's Nest recovery home for women and spent much of her time trying to make a difference in everyone else's lives. Bonnie had worked in a variety of settings including coordinating adult intensive outpatient, residential and dual diagnosis programs at Baptist Hospital and St. Mary's in Knoxville. She worked in a hospital based residential treatment program and was active in local 12-Step fellowships.

    Bonnie had also been a driving force behind the ETAADAC organization for many years as a dedicated member and mentor. Bonnie has been instrumental in helping Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors in East Tennessee become licensed by providing insight, training and direction and attended training seminars at the Summit and Journey Together conferences. Bonnie set the highest examples through action and has been responsible for touching the lives of thousands of people, both clients and peers alike.

    Mrs. Farrell was posthumously presented her award at the 2nd Annual ETAADAC Core Function Conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee by David Cunningham, NAADAC Regional Vice President, and David Vincent, LADAC, a former Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient in April 2007.


    2007 ETAADAC Counselor of the Year Also Selected as TAADAC's 2007 Tennessee Counselor of the Year

    Andy Dean
    Andy Dean, a recipient of the ETAADAC Counselor of the Year award, was selected to recieve the TAADAC Tennessee Counselor of the Year Award for 2007. Andy, also a front-line counselor for Steps House, Inc., was given the award at the 2007 NAADAC National Conference/ Journey Together Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in September 2007. Andy has been in the East Tennessee counseling field since 2001 and specializes in Relapse Prevention. Currently, he is working towards a License as an Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor in the State of Tennessee. Andy has served as the Secretary of the East Tennessee Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors from 2006 to 2007 and is a current member of NAADAC, the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors as well as the Tennessee and East Tennessee chapters of NAADAC.

    Mr. Dean was presented his award by Hilde Phipps, TAADAC President and will now be eligible for the NAADAC Counselor of the Year Award at the 2008 NAADAC National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
